My first exposure to Biomimicry was from no less than Janine Benyus who coined the term in 1997 in her internationally acclaimed book Biomimicry; Innovation inspired by nature. Innovation consultant, and author of six books, including Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature. That 1997 book was Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature (in which Benyus coined the term “biomimicry”) and it went on to stir up a movement of sorts in the United States. If chaos theory transformed our view of the universe, biomimicry is transforming our life on Earth. Private citizens harnessing the market place for positive social change. Biomimicry is an emerging discipline that seeks sustainable solutions by emulating nature's designs and processes. Biomimicry is an emerging discipline based on the logic that we can look to nature for ideas on how to design better products and processes. This is a very personal interview that is evocative, sensitive and warm. Janine Benyus wasn't the first person to use the term “biomimicry”, but since the original publication of her book, Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature, in 1997, Janine has done a great deal to spread the meme. To illustrate the history and theory of biomimicry she discusses case studies from her book, Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature. Biomimicry is innovation inspired by nature – taking advantage of evolution's 3.8 billion years of R&D since the first bacteria.
